A lot of guys have been asking how to rig the Deep Six Pirate plug for Wahoo. There are lots of ways but here are a couple of the way I rig them.
I use American Fishing wire 135lb. multi strand wire. I cut a piece about 12" and then simple snell it to a Mustad 7692 or a 7731 needle eye 7/0 8/0 or 9/0 hook . next take a piece of heat shrink tube and and slide it over the snell, this makes it easier to insert the hook in the bally hoo. Then using a 1.5" piece of #9 wire bend a 90° to make an L shaped pin and crimp it on leader with a single tube style crimp about 1.5" in front of the hook eye, then add a piece of copper rigging wire. Then slide the lure on and then use a SPRO 150 or 240 lb wind on swivel and crimp it using 2 crimps then attach 10/12' of fluorocarbon leader. This rig can be used when Tuna fishing in Wahoo infested waters, or straight targeting Wahoo.
The pin is used to anchor the bally hoo to the leader wire, you push the pin up through the bottom jaw and the top of its mouth. I punch the eyes of the bally hoo out and sew the rigging wire a time or two through the eye sockets tightly then in front of the pin closing its mouth then continue wrapping on down the beak. I leave the beak on and pass it through the lure head.
When targeting BF Tuna use use this same pin rig just eliminate the cable and use straight Fluorocarbon. I use crimps instead of snelling and i use anti chafe tube everywhere I think it is needed. |

| nice writeup. I am always curious about new ways to troll. I'm just starting to get into it and it seems everyone does it different. Having a solid walkthrough with pictures is a good way to get started. thanks! |
