It sure was nice being able to head out two weeks in a row. This time we were able to exit in darkness thanks to the winds and incoming tidal conditions. I arrived at Sandsprit at 4am to get some rigs re-tide from last weekend.
The crew of Cal and Mitch arrive right on time and we exit the dock at 5am. As we were heading away from the pocket we spotted these string of lights that ran from shore up into the sky above the AF.
Someone was flying a kite at night with lights above every 50ft or so. Pretty cool looking.
We headed to our northeast bait spot and immediately started hooking up on Goggle Eyes & Blue Runners. By daybreak we had a couple dozen in the wells. We got a call from Plane Fish N and told him to hit the northeast spot.
By the time he and his crew arrives we had 2 livewells full and were packing it in to make the run offshore. How did you guys end up today Eric?
Not much of a sunrise this morning...
We came across a few rips on the way out but not much with weeds. We stopped in 150ft on a rip around 7:30am to chunk up some baits. Drifted some liveys here for a bit then continued offshore.
Arrived at another nice rip in 245ft with some scattered weeds on it. With the east winds it was hard to stay on the rip as it was running north and south. After a half hour or so we opted to continue onward and hit this again later. We got a call from John Alki and Ocean Motion and let them know where the bait was this morning... How did you all make out today?
Arrived on the hill and put out the usual spread of (2) Daisy Chains out deep and two lures off the flatline clips. Two minutes later 3 of the 4 rods start singing... 3 Bonitas broke the ice and was a nice way to start the morning.
Gave Eric a call on the radio incase he wanted to bend some rods early. Reset the lines and continued the troll. A few minutes later the first BFT hits the box.
Saw a lot of these today.
Heres Plane Fish N and Ocean Motion trolling on the Hill...
Heres some of the other BFT's caught this morning. We boxed 5 in all and lost a few others. I thought we only had 4 in the box but when we got back to the park the crew found 5 in the box.
We got a call from Plane Fish N who ran out to 550ft and he said it was sloppy out there. I wanted to run deep as I saw on the SST maps this morning that there was a nice temp break aound 600ft. Then we get a call from Fishingbuddies that he just hooked up a fin on the southend of the hill on some weeds so we opted to run over and drop in some liveys
After a few drifts through the weeds with no luck we started to pack it in to make the run offshore. Right then the winds kicked up and the rains came which pretty much made our decision to run west instead of eastward.
We hit weed patches after weed patches and soaked some baits in each area with nothing. Not even a shark bite. We ran in to 90ft then back out to 250ft. We drifted liveys and slow trolled them through the scattered weeds with no luck.
Started making tracks to Pecks Lake and spotted this turtle on a rip in 140ft... I spotted a fin before I spotted the turtle so we stopped here an tossed in some more Goggle Eyes.
Minutes later Bad Habit stolls by and so does Ocean Motion with Scuppers aboard. How did you all make out today?
We arrive at Pecks Lake and it looked like a boat show. Boats and nets as far as you could see...
We came here for some Kings instead of the table fare (Spanish Macs) that they were catching.
We slow trolled some blue runners around this area in hopes of hooking up some meat to smoke with no luck again. Called it quits around 2:30 or so and headed back to the park.
Todays Tally:
3 Bonita
5 BFT with a few others lost at sea
