Wow it has been awhile since I typed up one of these. May 14th, 2011 to be exact.
Before I get into my days adventures there are a few people that I would like to thank. First I would like to thank all the forum members for your kind words, posts and emails since I have been missing in action. For those who don’t know I have been having back issues and with help from my Physical Therapists (Aaron Lee), I have been gradually getting better with no need for surgery (knock on wood)…
This list is kind of long so if you’re more interested in today’s report, simply scroll down to the first picture and have at it. Oh wait, you already have
These are in no particular order, just some people I would like to thank:
I would like to thank Jerry Antine for inviting my wife and I over to the Treasure Coast Goodwill Rehab center and showing us around. Have you taken the fishing crew out fishing lately Jerry?
I would like to thank Aaron Lee and everyone at Martin Memorial Health Systems Rehab Center in St. Lucie West for all your help in getting me on the mend without the need for a scalpel. (Knock on wood)
I would like to thank Chris from Coastalnightlights for the free transom light. Your warranty service is awesome.
I would like to thank John Andrews & Sara Brown at Footcush for great customer service. I recommend this cushion for your deck to help reduce the shock to your body.
I would like to thank MT Pockets for the invention of Parrot Shine. My back thanks you. My boat looks just like new (thanks for Pro-Boats detail job) again Tom’s Parrot Shine that I used to coat the entire boat . When I got back today, the dirt of the day just hosed right off. Not only the boat, but my truck as well.
I would like to thank Ken Little at TELEFLEX (Seastar) for great customer service. My Seastar Helm was leaking. It was over 2 years old and I decided to email TELEFLEX just to see if there was anything they can do for me. To my surprise, they shipped me a brand new one even though mine was over two years old. All I had to do is ship back the old Helm and Cylinder. Not only did they ship a new Cylinder and Helm, but they include two quarts of Hydraulic Steering Fluid.
Oh and I would also like to thank Tunachaser. It was nice of you to come shake my hand and introduce yourself at our chance meeting in the Sawgrass Mills Mall parking lot. It’s a small world….
Ok now for today’s adventure. I hit the Manatee Pocket around 4:30am this morning. I was like a kid in a candy store. It was like a blast from the past and time stood still. After 5 months to the day since I was last out, it was just as I remembered it.
I dumped the AF in the water and did my normal Salt Away on the trailer. My original plan was to skip catching bait and run to the Hill for the BFT bite but I figured since I was solo, and in a back brace (just to remind me to be careful, not that I need it) that catching livey’s and drifting them while setting in a chair would be much better for my back.
No sunrise today, but heres the moon:
Heres all the sun I seen until later in the day:
Let the bait hunt begin. I ran to the northeast spot all the way down to the last State Park buoy off of Hobe Sound Beach and was only able to scrape up a few blue runners, 1 cigar minnow and some hornbellies. I then took the hunt offshore and hit Shrimpers, Evans Crary and other spots in the area with nothing but the same.
It is now 9am so I switch up the plans and head for Push Button Hill in hopes to still catch the BFT bite. I arrive around 9:30am and proceed to put out one daisy chain way out and a large feather close to the prop wash. I made a couple of loops around the crowded Hill with nothing chewing. Heard on the radio that some people are catching football size tunas.
I then pass this bucket loaded up with Triple Tail. I pulled in the rigs and circle back around to see what else is home. Nothing green and the Triple Tails were too small.
If I had a boat like this, I wouldn't need no stinking back brace
It was a bit sporty out there today. Too sporty to run deeper to look for that weeds I heard about this morning. Thanks for posting guys.
I now hear on the radio that a 28ft Pursuit boat is taking on water in the vicinity of Evans Crary. Granted it is 6 miles away but when I looked around and no-one was leaving the Hill I switched to Channel 16. I get the coordinate of the vessel and head due east while monitoring channel 16. I got within 2 miles before they came on the radio and already had the sheriffs boat and Tow Boat on the scene.
I decided to drop in the same rigs I had on the hill in and troll north to my AJ spot. On the way I picked up (3) bullet Bonita’s on the black & purple daisy chain with a C&H lure on it. It was fun reeling in something since all I have caught so far was bait.
I arrive at the AJ spot with only 1.5 knot current. With the strong winds coming from the north, the drift took you south. I hooked up immediately but it came unglued. I bring up just the head of the bait. After a couple more misses I move in to 90 feet and set-up a drift there with my loan cigar minnow on the surface and a blue runner on the bottom.
No bites, or so I thought, during the last drift of the day. I bring up the runner and there is a nice chunk taken out of him. I never seen the hit. Tough getting old.
A site like this up north ment get the guns ready :machinegun
I called it a day around 1pm and make tracks back to SLI. Tried out my new GoPro today and hope to have the Video edited in a few days. I have never done this before so please be patient.
Today’s Tally:
3 bullet Bonita
2 mystery bites
1 bucket of Triple tail too small to keep
How did you all do today?
Nice seeing you guys offshore today. Johnalki & Shoeless.
I got a shout out from a few other Forum members but didn’t get their names. Thank You for the kind words.
Update on the Back issue:
I only had one time when I had pain today and that was when I was trying to reach up and grab a rod out of one of the rod holders on the T-Top. I have found that if I stand on the Footcush that it makes it painless.
Today’s Fishing Tip:
Being that all I caught today was Bonita, I think a non-fishing tip is in order. Here is one that I know you all can relate too. How many of you get out of the shower to a mirror that is all fogged up and can’t see to shave (not you girls) because the mirrors fogged in.
Stop by your favorite store and pick up a bottle of RainX Anti Fog (black bottle) and walla, no more fog. It works great and lasts a long, long time.
I am currently doing some test on my Lexan windshield I made for my T-Top. I am testing the scrap pieces first to make sure the RainX doesn’t harm the Lexan and so far so good. Next test will be the windshield itself to see how it works in the morning hours. |

Glad to see back at it again AF, looked pretty sloppy out there. Glad to see you posting pictures up again bud. Better luck next time when it's a little better out.

Thanks All... I had a great time even though the fish were not chewing... It was 5 months of pure pain not being able to get out... _________________ Alwaysforward, Never Straight |
