Question...i am new to offshore trolling

And have never ventured out to the nipple in the FL panhandle area. Is it worth my time to go out there in the next few days and are there any wahoo still out there ? Tuna?

Welcome AnglingAddict,

Yes it would, you could start fishing at the backside of the edge which is north/northwest of the nipple area, which starts dropping to 250' to about 400' and work your down to the nipple & 131 hole area's and work back & forth between the edge and those area's.

Very good chances of catching wahoo, dolphin, white marlin, blue marlin, tuna blackfin or yellowfin. Be sure to check out reefcast for the sea conditions forecast and bluewater supermap to see whats happening in those area's. There are tutorials on the website to show you how to use all the features of bluewater supermap & reefcast also. As long as the water temps stay 72 or above, the fishing should still be happening in those areas.

Thank you. I have been tryhing to get everything lined up to go. The only major thing I have left to do is figure out how much gas I need to take in cans with me, as my tank is only 69 gallon nad that won't quite do it. I have tried to look at the bluewater maps but think I need to watch the tutorials.

I got one right before the Destin fishing rodeo because I was looking for big sharks on and near the edge. I figured the HMS Angling permit would be expensive and was surprized it was only $20.

AA,

If your going outta Destin? You need to also fish between the Rock Cliffs down SE of it toward the Ozark along the ledges both on the shallow and deep sides would good be for you. That would help you from having to bring so much extra fuel on the deck. But always better to have extra than not enough. Reefcast is showing real good sea conditions for Tuesday & Wednesday right now for the week.

I am leaving out of Destin and was planning to go tommorrow, but couldn't find anyone that could go....so I was hoping to go Wednesday. I saw the forecast too. And I just looked at the tutorials on the Supermap. Looks like some good temperatures in between the Nipple and The Ozark. I don't have near as many opportunities for YFT along the edge do I?
I was thinking about getting out to the Nipple and 131 Hole because from what I understand, or thought I understood, there are more different species of peligacs out there....Am I wrong?

There are no fences out there, both places will produce.

Thanks. I think I'll watch the temperatures and decide from there where to go. I have trolled the area you are talking about and caught kings, wahoo, bonita, and dolphin. I am looking to catch something bigger or different. I guess it will be up to the temps.

I would like to thank Capt. Dave and Capt. DQ. I made it out on Wednesday and it was flat. I took a friend of mine, William, and we stared trolling at the Rock Cliffs headed for the Nipple. About the time we got to the north side two rods went off. William grabbed one I grabbed the other. I fought mine for a minute and put it back in the rod holder so I could clear the other 3 lines. I picked mine back up and it was still on. William landed a Bonita and I landed my first Blackfin ever. We put the lines back out, looped around a few times and headed for the center of the nipple. About the time we got there we hooked and William landed a skip jack tuna. We trolled to the 131 Hole and worked the 300 to 400 foot range back to the NW Nipple. We reeled it all up and headed toward Destin. We ran about a mile and foud blackfins feeding on the surface. I hooked one on a jig and got cutt off on the bottom of the boat almost instantly. William caught one on a cig on a flyline and landed it. We chunked till dark and tried to foolow the a little, but had no further luck. All in all it was a great time. Thanks again. How much did the Tuna's weigh?

My tuna was about 15 lbs. And Williams was about 20. Ended up burning 60 gallons of gas so the 45 gallons I had in cans were great to have but not necessary. Thinkin bout trying to venture out to the canyon next
