Headed out yesterday and the weather was great. Started off trolling around Fish Boxes and the only taker was either a nice Spanish or a small King not sure which so back it went. Headed on out to Big Kings without a sniff on the troll so we dropped to the bottom. Caught a mix of small bottom fish and a nice sized AJ, but we were looking for grouper. Moved over to Cripple rock and again started to catch a mix of bottom fish. Finally got a gag 20” and back he went. Then I caught two really nice sized grouper heads. My buddy Justin has been dying to catch a keeper shark so we put one of the grouper heads on his heavy rod and sent it back down. It didn’t take long for it to bend over with a big bull shark. I cleared all the rods and the deck and was in the process of pulling the anchor when the shark did a few laps around the anchor line. No problem, we took the rod and chased it around the anchor line until the shark was clear and Justin kept putting the wood to it. I got the anchor the rest of the way in and left it to Justin to fight his shark. When he got her worn down I roped her tail and secured her to a cleat and pulled her backwards for a few miles, didn’t work, still alive. Took a fillet knife and split her gills open on both sides and let out enough rope to drag her back in the wash. 5 miles later we pulled her up on board and ran home in the less than 2 foot greasy slick seas. Great day on the water, just wish a few of the large grouper had come up with their bodies still attached.

That is what I am saying, I would give 50 lbs of shark in trade for 5 lbs of grouper. Grouper is one of my favorites. _________________ "Pamela Jane"
