Its a good thing I wasn't basing my decision to fishing today on NOAA. Randy, we need to talk.
Here is the NOAA forecast I checked last minute this morning before leaving the house:
Here is what I based my decision to make the trip offshore today:
Windfinder
Buoyweather
These two sites along with the checking the weather buoy offshore of FPI convinced me it was a go.
Taking FISHIN GYPSY (Will) who is a forum member from PA down visiting his son (Ty) in Vero Beach. They arrived at the house early and we headed out as soon as the boat was loaded. We arrived at the ramps at 5am to only one boat there. They too mentioned the forecast by NOAA was way off. There was zero winds at the ramp this morning.
We headed to the NE spot and loaded up on Goggle Eyes and Runners once again. This spot has been hot for us for sure. Both livewells were loaded up before 7am. Got a shout out from Vindawg and called him over.
We stopped at a nice weedline in 50ft to chunk up some baits for fins later. Here is Vindawg passing by us after loading up his wells with bait.
We continued on to the Hill in hopes of getting them on the BFT early so we can go fin hunting. Seen this cloud while trolling around the Hill.
Randy (NOAA), please note the conditions this morning in 300ft of water. Again, we need to talk.
We had a double header of Skip Jacks... They were both released to be caught another day...
Here Will and his fish...
Heres Will's son Ty with his...
Both caught on Daisy Chains. After another 45 minutes of clearing weeds we opted to make a drift down the ledge with no luck. After checking the SST maps this morning I new there was a temp change offshore in around 600ft so we make a run in search of some fins. We stopped in 550 on a small weedline and had no luick. We continued out to 680ft and found what we were looking for. A nice weedline.
Randy, check out the waves in 680ft. I took these pictures for you. This was about 10am
We gave a shout out to Vindawg and he joined us on the weedline...
Will's line gets hooked up and the fight is on. We had no clue what it was as this fish did not surface or jump until about 5 minutes into the fight. Congrats Will on putting the first fin in the box.
After a few more drifts we had to exit in short order due to an on coming rain storm moving quickly down the coast from the north. Luckly we were able to run in to 280ft and drop the lines in again without getting wet. After a long drift here with no bites we move into 245ft to a nice weedline and found this guy flying around the area...
It wasn't long and the chinese fire drill was on... From here to the next hour it was almost non-stop action.
The smallest fin boxed was about 25" with the biggest around 36". Last fish of the day was Will's Bonita which kicked his butt...
Headed in around 1:00pm. Had a great time Will & Ty. You are welcome to come again anytime.
Todays Tally:
2 Skip Jacks
7 Fins
1 Bonita
How did you all make out today?

Awesome as usual. I made a few of your squid daisey chains that I am going to try out in tuna country this weekend. Hope they work as well for me as they do for you. _________________ "Pamela Jane"

They will. I also suggest you make some up using the 6" squids. They seem to bring in the bigger fish. Dolphin and BFT's. Let me know how you make out. _________________ Alwaysforward, Never Straight |

AF,
Congrats on your catches.
Always check reefcast to compare & see whats up as it is more accurate than NOAA most of the time when it is within a 72 hr window.
