Me and my dad are sailing his boat back from the bahamas in a month or so and I want to fish off the back. I've been offshore fishing once and was looking for cobia under manta ray wings...however, with all the open water, I don't really know what to fish for out there and what setup to use. We can't really reach a high trolling speed, maybe 5 knots or so. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Blue and white islander and a big reel and rod.

thanks JJ, i know this is a VERY broad question, so I appreciate the reply. I'm gonna bring my buddy Matt along, and he loves to fish, so I just want to have a really good time with some lines in. I'd like to catch some Dolphin or AJ, but I don't know if that's possible so deep out.

Dolphin yes, ajs, well possible but maybe not probable. You also might have a big wahoo or even marlin inhale the bait.

x2... try a variety of trolling lures, if you have sturdy gear try some Yozuri Bonitas or like a Strech lure ?? That ought to be a FUN trip!

I used to fish off big sail boats in Chesapeake Bay as kid. I caught a ton of big bluefish up to 40lbs, back when a blue was a blue. I just pulled spoons, but the problem was never catching, it was stopping every time I hooked up.
