This section is where I feel most comfortable. Who else here is into Swordfishing, Sailfish, Marlin, Wahoo, Dorado, Tuna ????? Nothing gets my blood pumpiing like trolling lines and seeing a bill come up. _________________ Fountain 34 CC

I used to troll with my Dad all the time almost to the point of burnout. I now have my own boat and almost never troll, I prefer jigging/bottom fishing. _________________ Formerly Spineyman |

| Alot of members on this and other forums, think for some reason that bottom fishing is what we are about. But it's not true. Blue water is were I like to be. We had a lousey blue water bite in 2008, That's why we starting targeting bottom fishing to include deep dropping. In 2007 we had two very nice releases of 650 pound blue and a 475 blue marlin T&G, Plus a host of others whites, sails, wahoo, dolphin and so on.2009 was a good year for the most part. But blue water was out most of the time at 90 miles or more. What ever is off shore swimming is what we will be after. But if the blue water is as close as 70 miles that is were you will find us. Looking forward to alot of good posts here from others. And just maybe we will have one or two and that swordfish is just a hook away. Gene |

I too prefer trolling. I have some experience but not nearly as much as the majority of the people on this forum. My problem is that i dont have much local experience. I have noticed that there is a huge difference between here (Destin) and the Space Coast (Port Canaveral). I'm learning though. _________________ I like my women like I like my redfish, between 18-27 and willing to show some tail. |

Gene, 90 miles to the stream water? How did you manage? I would have picked up and moved. _________________ Fountain 34 CC

Yep u just keep rubbing it in. Lol what are you like 10 miles to the gulf stream??
we also like trolling for kings (smokers not snakes), mahi wahoo sails tuna. While we didn't get any billfish to the boat this year we at least had some whites in our spread. Blue water / gulf stream fishing is my fav. |

We plan on fishing woods wall for atleast 2 days. And some of my crew has never tied into a 90pound AJ. What a better place then the marathon hump. Some times we do get clean blue water come in with lots of pelegic in it. The mississippi river plays a big part in it for us in the spring . If it's dumping lots of brown water it just about kills the pelegic bite close in to 70 miles. Right now we have colbalt blue water as close as 50 miles but nothing is in it except YFT,BFT and a few big hoo's and a mako or two . But I still love to fish this area. Our bottom fishing is some of the best in the state. When we are down that way you will have to show us northeners had to catch a sword. Gene |

I have to agree with Spineyman on getting a little burned out with trolling. Now do not get me wrong, I love trolling, but not nearly as much I love being anchored over a productive live bottom. Trolling is one of those things that will pretty much lull you to sleep if done for long periods and nothing is taking the bait. There is nothing at all that compares to that adrenaline fueled rush you get when a reel just starts screaming in protest to a large king or dolphin taking a bait. But in comparison, there aint much of any thing like an AJ slamming a worked jig or that gradual bend of a rod tip that results in you being bowed up on a big snapper or grouper. Here lately with this crap of weather we have been having, we have learned how much fun it is to troll stretch 25s by the bridge to catch red fish _________________ Reel Finatical Fishing Team

I'VE ONLY BEEN TROLLING BLIUE WATER SINCE JULY 11TH 2009 WHICH WAS MY FIRST TRIP ON RECESS. IT'S ALWAYS BEEN SOMETHING THAT I HAVE DREAMED OF DOING AND I LOVE IT MORE THAN I EVER EXPECTED TO. YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT'S GOING TO HIT OR WHEN. THE SOUND OF THE OUTRIGGER CLIP SNAPPING OPEN OR THE RUBBERBAND POPPING THEN THE REEL SCREAMING FOR ATTENTION. GETS YOUR BLOOD FLOWING FASTER. MAN, I DONE WORKED MYSELF UP NOW I'M READY TO GO CATCH SOMPTING. _________________ LIVE BY FAITH NOT BY SIGHT
