I was making some windon's tonight and as I was walking by my tackle wall, a pack of pearl squids caught my eye. Since I already had the glue out, I thought what the heck.
1. Trim off the tip of the squid to go over the ring (for stiff rigged hooks) You wouldn't need to do that with a flexi.
2. Slip it down over the ring, going about 1/8 past where you want it.
3. Drop of glue.
4. Slide it back up and trim off the hair a little.

It suddenly got hot in here when I saw the word HOOTCHIES scroll through. I have 1000s of packs of those skirts now I have a use for. Cool tip to share. _________________ Fountain 34 CC

I made some like that after seeing someone's on FPT. I didn't glue ours on though. Yep, they don't deter a fish bite that's for sure. |

They look nice.
I'm assuming your tying to the swivel in the first picture just like in the second one, however the assist cord is attached to the jig via the solid ring/split ring. This allows the fish to use the weight of the jig to throw the hook. You should put your assist hook on the swivel(preferably the top) and use just the split ring to attach the jig to the bottom of the swivel.
Oh yea that pink jig is deadly on those endangered red snappers

So instead of hanging the hook off a split ring to the jig, the assist hook goes on the swivel? Interesting. I've never seen that before... I've always rigged my own according to the pre-rigged ones, like going by a model.
Can you post a pic of your jigs rigged so I can see what you're talking about better? |

There is a picture of it in GMANS intro to Jigging you posted and stickied on here. I can post one if you like as well.
The assist hook should always be attached to the leader end of your terminal tackle. If the split ring opens up you dont want to loose the jig and fish, now if you knot breaks thats another story.

I never took that much notice to the detail of his particular rigging. Well if that split ring opens you lose just your jig vs the fish. I don't remember losing a fish yet from faulty jig rigging but I get the idea of gman's way. I'll start rigging the next ones like that. |

| One question: how do you get a solid ring onto that swivel? We've bought swivels that already have the solid rings on them but they were huge like for our wahoo lures...but I guess there are smaller ones out there for this type of application..? Will look around some tackle stores |

Those are bought that way. There sold thru some specialty shops like Jignpop and saltywater tackle. The Ball bearing swivels(ones in your second picture) you have with the rings on them will work as well and are easier and sometimes cheaper to find, plus you don't have to have different swivels for different applications.
