|
Yes I am out here asking for your help in a bad time. Military Appreciation Day is pushing forward with our event in PC on July 31st. At this time we have 5 boats signed up to take the heroes fishing. I know the oil is a problem and may end up cancelling the fishing for the event, but I am ever the optimist. The bay looks good , as the Redfish U reports have shown, and state waters are still open. We need boat owners to volunteer to help us. Whether you fish the bay or take them into state waters, our heroes enjoy catching fish, and many have never done more than shore fish before. We have a standby list of heroes at this time we are sure is going to grow as the event nears. Should something happen and we have to cancel the fishing portion of the event, we will still hold all onshore activites for the heroes and their families, and anyone who volunteers is more than welcome to come enjoy the day with them. I know this is asking a lot of you, but remember what our country asks of them everyday when they are away from home and their families. Please help us show our heroes we appreciate their sacrifices.
Thank You
Richard Beaverson

Hey Richard,
Is this in Destin where you are needing boats at?

DQ: The event is being held in Panama City at Bay Point Marina. If you are willing to bring your boat over we will be more than happy to have you. Arrangements can be made for a wet slip for the weekend at a price you won't believe is true.
Mackokid: As far as I know there is nothing as of now in that area that hosts all troops. There are a few organizations set up for wounded warriors and troops on leave from overseas. We do have a "Take a Hero" fishing forum that partners service members with boat owners for a day of individual fishing.
If anyone would like to more feel free to...910-263-4906, I can answer and and all questions you have. _________________ Support www.militaryappreciationday.org |

Richard, wished I could, but the bayou where my boat is dock is boomed off, plus we just got another heavy dose of oil yesterday & this morning in Pensacola. So its to risky to even put a boat in that mess as it stick's to your bottom paint and destroy's it, it will ruin the gelcoat or paint on your hull sides if it comes in contact with it. Plus you definitly do not want your engines sucking that up into the intakes @ all. So were pretty well screwed over here. To be honest with you, I don't even understand why I need a boat now. Very Sad for the GOM.
Good Luck to everybody,

I'm sorry to hear the DQ, we are praying it stays away from us long enough to at least have the event in state waters and/or the bay. IF you want to help us, or know anyone that is willing to help, out in other ways, we need volunteers on land to help with cooks, and if the fishing does happen, we could use help on the docks getting the boats docked, pushed away and with fish cleaning after the heroes return. We have a special rate with LaQuinta for the weekend for our volunteers.
Thank you,

I saw in the PC News Herald there was an article about the 40/40 being cancelled along with their childrens event and the take the military fishing part of their event. That is in no way tied to the Mililtary Appreciation Day event on July 31st. Our event is still a go, INCLUDING the fishing, at least for now. The biggest problem we are having right now is getting local boat owners to step up and help us. I would hate for the fishing portion of our event to get cancelled because we dont have enough boats to take our heroes out fishing or worse, to have to tell some of our heroes they can't fish while others can. We are making EVERY effort to ensure this wont happen, but without the boats...the heroes can't fish. State waters are still open, the bay is still open and I am in contact with the powers to be about the bouy line being put across the pass. If there is a way to make it happen we want to, even if it is a catch and release event, trust me, the heroes will enjoy any time they can get behind a rod. I know this sounds like begging, but its all we have left. I have put numerous posts about our event here and on other sights to no avail. We are 30 days out and have FIVE boats, signed up, thats room for 16 heroes, we have 25 signed up right now with more to follow. PLEASE HELP US make this a great event, if the oil spill continues, this may be the last chance for a long time we have to show the military how much they are appreciated by the fisherman in this area. Call me, email, snail mail, I will even accept carrier pigeons if you must, but contact me and lets make this something for the heroes and their families to remember.

We are up to 47 heroes with no where to fish!!! Is annyone????? even looking at this? Come on...its a shame that with all the fisherman in the area we can't get 20-25 boats to help us out. I see people are still fishing, why not fish with us????? I have 3 boats traveling over 500 miles to help us out with our event, and 2 local boats!! 5 boats total for 57 heroes _________________ Support www.militaryappreciationday.org |

Hate to see the lack of response to this. I have been involved as a volunteer boat and as a Military guy fishing in NC a few times and it is such a great event. I am currently outside of the states but will be moving down to Eglin this time next year. Nothing I can do to help this year but I will be around to help get it going and drum up some support next year. I am optimistic that next year we will have clean water and be able to generate interest to get this off the ground. _________________ "Pamela Jane"

We are up to 90 heroes, if you are interested please contact me as soon as possible so I can tell you how to get your boat signed up. Without volunteer boat owners we will be leaving heroes on the dock! _________________ Support www.militaryappreciationday.org |
