Opinions on a spinner for jigging... I walked thru some stores today and picked out these 3 in my price range (leaving money left over for a new rod too...)
Here's my choices:
Okuma Cedros (it was on sale for 1/2 off)
Shimano Saragosa (I'm 1 in a million that don't really care for shimano...)
Quantom Boca (i loved the pearl color of this reel!!! lol) |

| I would go with the saragosa. But be prepared to change the drag sytem when it goes out. I like the feel of the reel and the prefomance is great. very smooth drag even under pressure holds lots of line and a great ratio. We have deep drop with the 14000 to 760 feet 20 oz weight and pulled up snowies to 42 pounds on it. The replacement drag is around 24.00 but once the newer drag is installed you have one bad reel there. And the cost will not kill you. Gene |

| How heavy is the reel when spooled? I've jigged with our Penn 850 and it felt heavy, like unbalanced... How is the big saragosa? I've used spineys but it wasn't one of those big ones I don't think..? |

| i've jigged a bunch with tthe 20k saragosa, i feel its too big for jigging in 300 foot of water, if i was shopping i'd buy the 14k like recess has.super smooth and balanced. what kind of rod are you buying? |

Amanda, I have the Saragoosa 8000, it is great for light jigging but not for deep jigging like we do with Cameron. If you plan on going deep then get at least the 14 or the 18. _________________ Formerly Spineyman |

| The thing ive learned with heavy reels is, they dont seem heavy if they are paired with a well balanced rod. I just bought a 4/0 metal senator, and put it on a well balanced, it worked well. Dont let weight hold you back! Good luck!! |

Amanda look at Spheros. I don't think they were much more expensive than the Saragosas. Look at me giving advice and I barely know what I'm talking about. Choose wisely over vanity. _________________ Fountain 34 CC

| It dawned on me just now that if I can wait until the end of Feb I could maybe catch a sweet deal from the spring sale at Outcast on Shimanos... but can I wait that long?! |

We also have another key largo 8 foot cobia/king delux with a fin-nor 9500os on it the and it will wear you out very quickly casting poppers and it is just to heavy to even try and jig with it. Like is was mention, a balance rod will make all the different in the feel. Gene |

Just bite the bullet and buy both the 8000 and the bigger one also. That way you have both shallow and deep covered. _________________ Formerly Spineyman |
