Fisherman hooked US Air Force Missile.
Barmy Rodney Salomon kept the bomb on board his boat for 10 days while he continued his fishing trip in the Gulf of Mexico.
Salomon informed authorities of what he found in his net as he was preparing to return to port near St. Petersburg in Florida.
Salomon hoped to keep it as a souvenir, but took precautions because he didn't know if it was live.
He said: "I had it secure. I keep it cool."
A military bomb squad met him at the shore to remove sensitive technology from the projectile and dispose of it.
Eglin Air Force Base spokesman Samuel King said the bomb contained no explosives despite local authorities initially saying the missile was live.
King said the missile was fired from an F-15 fighter jet during a test in August of 2004. It was a telemetry missile, used to measure and transmit data.
Authorities said Salomon hooked the missile 50 miles off Panama City. The military uses Gulf waters for weapons training.
